Since collecting the keys in January 2020, a few jobs have been tackled and completed –
- Getting the boiler up and running (1 sadly died, but at least one of them is working and will heat the church no problem)
- Cleaning, plastering and painting in the main church area
- Moving the ornate panel a metre forward at the front of the church
- Removed the external and internal doors to be dipped in Glasgow
- Undertaking an aerial roof survey and starting the roof, guttering and downspout repairs
- Surveys of the building for dry rot, damp and woodworm
- Pre-planning application submitted
- Removal of lath and plaster in the church hall to expose the original stone work
Our next steps –
- Complete roof works to ensure dry and no leaks
- Clean off doors.. (as have been standing some time since being dipped) paint and hang all doors
- Ensure new lintel in place for church hall kitchen doorway (the last one crumbled and fell apart_
- Continue to strip walls in church hall and clear all church hall
- Meet with architect (already spoken to an architect that has completed historic projects on the island)
- Full costing and feasibility survey
- Full Planning Application
